liquid identity

The LIQUID IDENTITY /Liquid ID/ series is a visual and conceptual exploration of identity in flux, inspired by Zygmunt Bauman’s theory of liquid life. In this body of work, identity is no longer anchored in fixed coordinates. Instead, it drifts through a landscape shaped by digital mediation, global dislocation, and the dissolution of stable social structures. Bauman’s notion of a transition from “heavy” modernity to a “light,” software-like existence finds expression in the distorted, melting digital portraits that populate the series. These faces—elongated, fragmented, and fluid—embody the tension between presence and erasure, between the desire to be seen and the impossibility of being fully grasped. The dual-screen format and mirrored compositions reinforce the multiplicity and simultaneity of selfhood in the digital age. The work does not mourn the loss of a singular identity but embraces the emergence of multifaceted, hybrid selves. These “liquid IDs” are shaped by algorithms, avatars, and online personas—inhuman in origin, yet deeply entwined with lived experience. The series suggests that the digital condition, with its distortions and disembodied aesthetics, contributes new layers to the human psyche rather than replacing it. Through this lens, Liquid ID becomes a study in transformation: a meditation on how identity is constructed, deconstructed, and reimagined in a world where one belongs everywhere and nowhere. It invites viewers to confront the instability of self-representation and to consider the beauty and complexity of being perpetually in motion.
